‘Value’ lager warning

One in five pints of lager now served in pubs are of the ‘value’ variety, believes the VFI’s Company Secretary Michael Fitzgerald.
“These value lagers help to get people in at a time when they wouldn’t normally be there but there can also be a downside,” VFI Company Secretary Michael Fitzgerald warns at conference.“These value lagers help to get people in at a time when they wouldn’t normally be there but there can also be a downside,” VFI Company Secretary Michael Fitzgerald warns at conference.

“These value lagers help to get people in at a time when they wouldn’t normally be there but there can also be a downside,” he warned those attending this year’s VFI Conference in Westport.

He’d calculated that if a publican was charging a €uro less for value lagers than for premium lagers and selling a barrel a week, that publican will be down by over €2,000 after a year compared to his take on premium. So don’t make them a major part of your business, he advised.
