SEOs down by a third ’07-’09

The number of Special Exemption Orders issued by the District Court has dropped by nearly a third in the three years from 2007 to 2009, from 90,691 in 2007 to just 64,011 in 2009, according to the latest figures available from the Courts Service Annual Report for 2009.


The number of new liquor licences issued by the Circuit Court for Pubs again fell in 2009 from 260 in 2008 to 192. The 2007 figure was 267.

Similarly the number of new Hotel licences granted reduced to 21 in 2009 compared to 37 in 2008 and 62 in 2007.
There were just 34 new Special Restaurant Licences issued in 2009 compared to 70 in 2008 and 64 in 2007.
New liquor licences for Clubs, at just 12, was one down from 2008’s 13.

There was an increase in the number of publicans getting their licence renewed in the District Court in 2009 at 1,019, up from 956 in 2008 while those granted an Annual Dance Licence reduced from 1,598 in 2008 to 1,503 in 2009.
