Repak announces no increase in fees for 2011

Through employing rigid cost control, Repak has managed to freeze its fees for the third year running

RepakThe Board of Repak has announced that there will be no increase in membership fees for 2011. This will be the third year in a row that Repak fees have been frozen.  “Fees have been held despite a rise both in costs and in recycling targets. This has been achieved through rigid cost control while maintaining subsidies to recovery operators.”

This is welcome news in these difficult times, particularly as the average off-licence generates 41 tonnes of packaging for every one million euro in turnover. If your outlet deals almost exclusively in wine, then this figure is closer to 78 tonnes of packaging for each million euro in turnover.

Comparative studies show that Repak remains one of the lowest cost packaging compliance schemes within the EU. Based on information to-date, Repak remains the only packaging compliance scheme within the EU to hold charges at previously low levels. Despite this, Ireland is now ranked as the eighth best recycling performer within the EU.
