Off-trade spirits monthly price up 12.6%

Overall alcohol prices were down by 0.6% in the year to the end of January 2016 according to the Consumer Price Index for January 2016.

Over the three-month period November to January, alcohol prices rose 0.43% while they were up 1.4% in January compared with the previous month.

Off-trade prices for alcohol were down 3.1% in the 12 months to the end of January 2016 while they were up 5.2% compared to the previous month, December.

The annual off-trade price changes comprised a decrease of 0.3% in spirits prices, a 4.6% decrease for wine prices and a 2.1% decrease for beer prices. However January’s off-trade prices were up 12.6% for spirits when compared to the previous month while they were up 6.6% for wine and 0.7% for beer.

On-trade prices for January 2016 were up 0.5% on January 2015 while they were up 0.1% compared to the previous month, December 2015.

The on-trade price changes comprised a rise in price of 0.8% for the year for spirits, 0.6% for wine and 0.3% for beer with a rise of 0.5% for soft drinks & mineral waters. Monthly price changes comprised a 0.1% increase on the previous month for spirits, wine and beer where soft drinks and mineral water prices remained flat.

January’s nightclub admission prices decreased by 2% over the year and by 0.7% compared to the previous month, December.
