Museum Real Reserva 2004 picks up 2 NOffLA Awards
Mackenway Distributors took three of the 15 Gold Star awards winning ‘Wine of the year 2010’ and Overall Award Winner for its Museum Real Reserva 2004 and ‘White Wine of the Year 2010’ for its Shoofly Chardonnay 2008.
NOffLA’s Irish Wine Show this year brought forth 15 wines priced to appeal to all budgets as winners in the Gold Star 2010-2011 Wine Collection.
Mackenway Distributors took three of the 15 Gold Star awards winning ‘Wine of the year 2010’ and Overall Award Winner for its Museum Real Reserva 2004 and ‘White Wine of the Year 2010’ for its Shoofly Chardonnay 2008.
NOffLA put the Gold Star Awards in place to enable consumers to identify some of the very best wines available from over 500 labels typically found in the average off-licence.
But the Gold Star Collection also helps those learning about wine and those with but a little knowledge of wine to narrow down the task of selecting a good wine to match their budget. The scheme represents a golden opportunity for NOffLA members to promote and sell these winning wines which have merited a Gold Star award on the basis of appearance, smell, taste and value-for-money.
Each of the wines is available from NOffLA’s 330-plus membership and they are clearly identifiable on the shelf for consumers.
The Gold Star awards play a key role in communicating the variety of excellent wines available in Ireland at different price points, said NOffLA Chairperson Evelyn Jones.
“The awards are categorised by price, so have gained a reputation over the past nine years for being the essential guide for selecting great wines at any price,” she stated. She also pointed out that despite the misconception that the higher the price of the wine the better the quality, four of NOffLA’s Gold Star winners retail at under €8.
“The Gold Star Awards brochure, which includes tasting notes, will also provide shoppers with the confidence to try new wines that are selected and recommended by an expert tasting panel,” she said.
This year, the annual Wine Show took place at the Pavilion in Leopardstown where distributors showcased their portfolios for Christmas and the year ahead.
