Mt Gambier awarded regional status

The Mt Gambier wine region of Australia has been awarded ‘Geographic Indication’ status by the Australian Wine & Brandy Corporation which means that local winemakers will be able to use the name ‘Mt Gambier’ on their labels to distinguish themselves from other regions such as Coonawarra on Australia’s Limestone Coast.

The development forms part of the AWBC’s regional strategy to enhance the quality image of Australian wine in key export markets by focusing on the regional differences between wines.
