Minimum pricing out for Scotland

Scottish government plans to introduce minimum pricing have been scuppered by the Scottish Parliament’s Health Committee which recently voted against the introduction of a minimum price of 45 pence per unit of alcohol on drinks there.

Scottish government plans to introduce minimum pricing have been scuppered  by the Scottish Parliament’s Health Committee which recently voted against the introduction of a minimum price of 45 pence per unit of alcohol on drinks there. As a result, the initiative will be removed from the Alcohol Bill which will be voted on by the full Scottish Parliament in coming weeks.
The ruling Scottish National Party’s plan to tackle excess drinking in Scotland has not been entirely abandoned, however, with a ban on promotions and a ‘social responsibility levy‘ on retailers getting the nod of approval from the Parliament’s Health Committee.
