It’s tonight for the Irish Whiskey of the Year!

Ireland’s best Irish whiskey will be announced this evening from the Tullamore Distillery when the results of the 2016 Irish Whiskey Awards will be made known.

This is the fourth year of the awards which began in 2013 and now span some 20 categories of Irish spirits which makes it one of the biggest celebrations of Irish whiskey in the world. The Overall Irish Whiskey Bar of the Year will also be announced this evening, won last year by Dick Macks in Dingle.

The Irish whiskey and Irish spirit winners are picked out based on blind-tasting with judging having taken place across three sessions involving white spirits, Malts and Blended & Pot Still Whiskeys.

While Celtic Whiskey Club members and members of the Irish Whiskey Society judged the whiskeys, the spirits categories – gin, vodka and poitin – were judged by members of the trade.

This evening begins with a tour of the new state-of-the-art Tullamore Distillery followed by the hosting of the awards in the Old Distillery building there.

Last year’s awards saw Redbreast 21 Year-Old honoured as the Irish Whiskey of the Year 2015.
