Barry Group awarded Munster Service Business award

Mallow-based Barry Group collected the 2010 award for ‘Service Business in Munster’ in Ulster Bank’s recent Business Achievers Awards, advancing the company to the national finals in April.

Barry Group Managing Director Jim Barry commented, “In the current economic climate, we’re facing challenges that many of us have never faced before.

“We should also remember that difficult times present interesting opportunities for people, so now is the time to inspire others.”
The Business Achievers Awards recognise excellence in Irish business,  and the outstanding contribution Irish companies make to the Irish economy. The awards strive to inspire other entrepreneurs to follow their lead. Now in their 16th year, all businesses, regardless of size or sector can enter.

Barry Group – which supplies product to over 700 stores including 232 affiliated stores in RoI operating under the Costcutter, Carry Out, BuyLo and Quik Pick brands – was also named one of the Deloitte Best Managed Companies in 2010 and won Gold Standard in the ‘Stonehouse Depot of the Year 2010’. In addition, it was shortlisted for the Cork Chamber’s ‘Cork Company of the Year 2010’ and the ‘Great Place to Work 2011’ awards.

Jim Barry himself was a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in 2010.
