Bar volumes up 4.1%

Bars numbered among the retail sectors with the largest monthly volume increases in November according to seasonally-adjusted provisional figures from the CSO.

Bars increased their sales volumes by 4.1% in November compared with the previous month, October. But bar volume sales were up just 0.1% on an annual basis.

Bar sales values also showed growth of 3.3% in November over October. They were up 1.9% on an annual basis.

Final seasonally-adjusted figures for October show bar sales down 4.6% in volume and by 2.8% in value when compared to October 2017. Volumes were down 4.5% on the previous month, September 2018, while values were down 3.6%.

Across the three-month period September to November bar sales volumes were down 1.3% and values up 0.6% when compared with the same quarter in 2017 and volumes were down 0.7% while values were up 0.6% when compared with the previous quarter – June to August in 2018.

Retail sales overall showed a decrease of 0.1% in volume and an increase of 3.6% in value for November.
