Alcohol prices down 0.3%

Alcohol prices fell 0.3% in the year to July 2016 according to the latest CSO figures.

They fell by 0.2% when compared to the previous month, June – and by the same amount over the three months May to July.

In the off-trade, alcoholic beverage prices fell 3.1% in the 12 months to July 2016 which comprised a rise of 0.8% in spirits prices, a fall of 5.7% in wine prices and a fall of 1.9% in beer prices.

Off-trade alcohol prices fell 0.9% in July when compared to June comprising a rise of 0.8% in spirits prices, a fall of 2.1% in wine prices and a rise of 0.2% for beer prices.

Prices in licensed premises witnessed a 0.9% rise in the 12 months to July this year comprising a 1.4% rise in spirits prices, a 1.0% rise in wine prices, a 0.6% rise in beer prices and a 1.0% rise in soft drinks & mineral water prices.

Compared to June, prices in licensed premises rose by just 0.1% with a rise of 0.1% in spirits prices and no change recorded in wine, beer or soft drinks & mineral water prices.

The price of admission to nightclubs fell 0.2% in the year to July 2016 but the CSO recorded no change in July compared to June 2016.
