Teeling launches Hybrid Malt Whisky

The former Managing Director of Cooley Distillery (which was sold on to Beam Brands last January for $95 million) Jack Teeling and son of Cooley Distillery founder John, has launched a whole new category of whiskey with the introduction of Hybrid Malt Whiskey from his recently-founded Teeling Whiskey Company.

Edition No 1 of the Hybrid Malt Whiskey consists of award-winning Single Malt whiskey from Cooley Distillery and 10 Year-Old Single Malt whisky from Bruicladdich in Scotland which have been married together in oak barrels for eight years.

The Teeling Whiskey Company aims to bring back a strong independent voice to the Irish whiskey market, he says, adding that it will broaden consumer choice within the Irish whiskey category by creating unique hand-crafted whiskeys.

In the Teeling Whiskey Company’s search for new and interesting tastes a new category of whiskey has been born – Hybrid Malt whiskey, bottled at cask strength, 44.1 per cent.

“The offspring from marrying award-winning aged Malt whiskies from around the world creates a fusion of styles and flavours which delivers a truly unique taste experience,” stated the company, “Bottled at cask strength with no chill filtration or colouring added, Hybrid Malt Whiskey is for connoisseurs who can see beyond the norm.”

Teeling Whiskey Company has been set up to ensure that there is an independent alternative to the multinationals who are currently driving the category, Jack Teeling stated, adding, “We’ll focus on innovation and providing choice and unique whiskey expressions for whiskey connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike. The Hybrid is a prime example of our approach to product and category innovation.”

Over the coming months the company will release a range of other products to further expand consumer choice and challenge existing perceptions of Irish whiskey, he added.

Edition No 1 will be limited to just 1,200 70cl bottles, available from the Celtic Whiskey Shop, Dawson Street and at Dublin Airport at RRP of €50 a bottle.
