SuperValu retains top alcohol market share

SuperValu retained its dominance over Tesco in the off-trade Beers & Wines market for the 12 months to the 6th of September with a 27.2% share of the Total Take Home Alcohol market (excluding spirits), up again from the previous year's share at 26.2% according to figures supplied exclusively to Drinks Industry Ireland from Kantar.

Tesco’s share, meanwhile slipped from 25.1% to 24.2%.

Third-placed Dunnes Stores grew share from 18.0% to 18.5% while Aldi level-pegged on 10.3%.

Behind Aldi came Lidl with a share of 11.3%, up by 0.1 percentage point on the previous year’s share. The others – including independent specialist retail outlets – witnessed their share shrink from 9.2% to 8.5% according to Kantar.
