SuperValu overtakes Tesco in beer, wine & cider share

SuperValu has taken the beer, wine and cider share crown from the long-time king Tesco in take-home in the 52 weeks to 8th September.

 

SuperValu became Top Dog in the beer, wine and cider market in the 52 weeks ending 8th September, deposing Tesco to second place, some 1.2 percentage points below.

Former market leader Tesco’s share of the beer, wine & cider market fell from 26.1% to 25.0% in the year while SuperValu’s share increased its grip from 24.6% the previous year to 26.2% in the year to 8th September according to Kantar Worldpanel figures supplied to Drinks Industry Ireland.

At the same time Dunnes Stores gained 1.3 percentage points, rising to an 18.0% share while Lidl’s market share fell from 12.4% to 11.2% and Aldi slipped from 10.4% to 10.2%.

The ‘Others’ saw a fall in share too, from 9.8% to 8.4%.
