Pre-tax profits down at Burtse

Pre-tax profits fell 30% to €5.7 million in the year to the 30th June 2018 from €8.1 million the previous year at Fitzgerald Group subsidiary Burtse, Louis and Helen Fitzgerald’s holding company for a number of prominent licensed premises including Kehoe’s pub in Dublin’s South Anne Street, The Stag’s Head in Dame Lane and the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel on the Naas Road, as well as the Quays bars in Dublin’s Temple Bar and Galway.

 

 

Burtse Group’s turnover for the year was up 16% to €69.9 million from €60.5 million with Operating Profits down 30% to €8.3 million from €11.85 million the previous year.

The Director’s – Louis & Helen Fitzgerald – removed €6.85 million in Directors Remuneration for the year, considerably up on the €435,962 figure for the previous year.

This contributed to the Wages & Salaries bill for the year which ran to €20.8 million, up 48% from the previous year’s €14.1 million figure for the 798 staff (including the two directors).

Overall staff costs (including social insurance and defined contribution scheme costs) rose 45% to €22.3 million from €15.4 million.

Staff numbers were themselves up 13% from the previous year’s figure of 705.

This comprised 741 staff involved in bar/operations, a rise of 12% on the 660 figure for the previous year while Management accounted for 34 people, up on the previous figure of 22.

Administration staff numbered 12, down from the previous year’s 15 while Hotel Management staff were up three to nine.
