Orchard Inn cuts losses & Dropping Well increases profits

Charlie Chawke’s Orchard Inn in Rathfarnham put in a profit for the year to 31st October 2018 of €362,549 thus cutting its losses from €523,470 in 2017 to €160,921 on a turnover before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation of €1.12 million, up slightly on the previous year.

According to an abridged financial statement, Orchard Inn Ltd (including subsidiary, Lena Chawke Ltd) had net current liabilities of €1.22 million, down from the previous year’s net liability figure of €842,555.

The average number of staff throughout the year (including directors Charlie and Bernice Chawke) was 49, up one from the previous year.

Meanwhile the couple’s Dropping Well pub enjoyed profits of €529,395 with pre-tax profits in the year to 31st October 2018 of €675,529, down 22.5% on the previous year.

Turnover at the pub in the South Dublin suburb of Milltown also declined 9% to €10.4 million from €11.4 million the previous year.

Staff numbers (including the two directors) rose to 143 from 136 as seven new Bar & Restaurant staff were hired.

However staff wages, salaries and social insurance costs fell 10% from €4.0 million to €3.6 million.

Milltown Inns and its subsidiary companies reduced the size of its Group bank loan from €22.8 million to €21.7 million during the year.
