Lidl gains share of takehome beer & wine market

Discounter Lidl made significant share gain in the takehome beer & wine market in the year to the 13th of June, gaining 1.4 percentage points on its competitors to take 12.8% of the market, up from 11.4% in the year to the 14th of June 2020.

According to the latest figures exclusively supplied to Drinks Industry Ireland by Kantar, SuperValu remains top dog in takehome beer & wine sales in the year to the 13th of June this year with the largest share of the market at 25.5%.

However this is down 1.2 percentage points from its 26.7% share over the same period to the 14th of June 2020.

With a 24.1% share Tesco’s grip has again slipped slightly, by 0.3 percentage points from the previous year.

Dunnes Stores also lost share going from 18.5% to 18.1% while Aldi grew share slightly from 10.2% to 10.5%.

Independents – the ‘Others’ – saw a slight rise in share, going from 8.8% to 9.0% when comparing years.
