Lidl continues to gain alcohol ground

Lidl has gained the most ground in the take-home beer and wine sales war in the year to last December as Dunnes Stores continues to suffer share losses in this sector according to figures from Kandar Worldpanel released to Drinks Industry Ireland.

Tesco continues to lead the pack with a (reduced) share of the take-home beer and wine market of 25.7% (down from 26.3% in the year to December 2017).

However SuperValu gained two share percentage points to hold 25.4% of the market in the year to last December while Dunnes’s share declined again from 17.6% to 17.0%.

Aldi’s share of the beer and wine market also fell from 11.2% to 10.3% while Lidl grew share from 10.9% to 11.9%.

The ‘others’ lost share going from 10.6% in the year to December 2017 to 9.7% to December 2018,
