At 178% of the EU average, Irish alcohol prices were the second-most expensive across the EU after Finland (at 182% of the EU average) according to Eurostat figures for 2018 published recently.

Alcohol prices here were more than double the price of those in Romania, the cheapest in the EU for alcoholic beverages, at just 74% of the EU average.

Alcohol prices in Sweden came in third at 152% of the EU average.

Ireland also emerged the most expensive country for “housing, including water, electricity and fuel” (57% higher than the EU average).
