Increasing bank credit vital

A survey by the SFA recently found that 91 per cent of respondents believe that increasing the amount of credit available from banks to SMEs is vital.

Savings ratios were at an all-time high of 10 per cent of GDP from their more common five per cent.

“If we could bring this back down to five per cent it would release €1 billion to the domestic economy,” SFA Chairman Ian Martin stated recently at the SFA Annual Conference, held in the Clyde Court Hotel, D4.

John Perry TD, Minister for Small Business, opened the recent conference and referred to the various initiatives taken to make the banks fit for purpose.
