How not to clear a bar

A novel way of clearing a bar at closing time led to tragedy in South Africa recently when the bar’s proprietor James Lepholletse let loose with a shotgun to clear his premises in the small township of Ipelegeng in the North West province early on New Year’s Day.

The ensuing stampede by customers making getting the hell out of the building one of their first New Year resolutions left seven men and three women dead.
The 47 year-old bar owner has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide, causing death by negligence.
A local safety official described the incident as “the worst New Year celebration disaster” in the province’s history.
