Hattrick for Hinch
The distillery also produces the Hinch whiskey range on the Killaney Estate just outside Belfast.
Based in Sydney, the AUISC is run by Australian spirits experts in conjunction with US counterparts and ultimately links winners with international buyers. It’s chaired by veteran and globally-respected spirits expert Steve Beal.
The AUISC award follows two other wins for Hinch in the first quarter of 2020 when it took a Gold Award at the World Gin Awards in January and last month the company’s Hinch Whiskey received a Silver Medal for its Five Year Old Double Wood at the World Whiskey Awards.
“To receive the Gold Award in the contemporary category at the AUISC shows us that while we may be a young company, we’ve already made many of the right decisions from our inception” said Hinch Distillery Chairman Dr Terry Cross OBE, “and we’re glad our self-belief is being endorsed by those who know best at home and away. It really marks the perfect start to what will be an exciting year for Hinch Distillery as construction revs up for a public launch this Summer.”
Terry Cross has invested £15 million in the Hinch Distillery project which will conclude this Summer with the opening of the two-floor distillery and additional public features including a visitor centre, coffee shop, public restaurant, pub, outside courtyard space, multi-purpose events spaces catering for weddings to corporate events and a retail shop.
The distillery has also entered the International Spirits Challenge with five of its Hinch Whiskey ‘The Whiskey That Understands Time’ range into the highly competitive Irish Whiskey competition in both the Premium Blends, Pot Still and Single Malts categories. The results are due this May and it has also entered its Ninth Wave Irish Gin in its respective category, hoping for a third gold in a row.
Considered one of the most authoritative respected and influential spirits competitions in the world, the International Sprits Challenge is in its 25th year.
