Government to hike excise in October?

With the government increasingly likely to introduce a carbon tax in Budget 2020, a number of senior figures in the drinks industry fear that there’s a fair likelihood of excise duties on alcohol being raised once again too.

To counteract such a move in the Budget the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland hopes to re-launch its ‘Support Your Local’ initiative this April or May.

The launch is likely to be supported by a statistical body of work on the economic consequences of any excise increase etc.
