Dublin – 5th best city for beer lovers

A new study reveals Dublin to be the fifth-best city in the world for beer-lovers.

Overall, Dublin ranked seventh out of 23 cities as "a trendy city" with a score of 6.14 out of 10.

The study, carried out by UK discount company Hey Discount, looked at cities around the world that are home to the most breweries per 100,000 people to reveal the best cities to travel to for a pint.

Dublin’s 0.6 breweries per 100,000 people compares with table-topper Edinburgh which has 1.1 breweries per 100,000 people.

According to Hey Discount’s study, Edinburgh is the number one city for beer enthusiasts, “making it the perfect destination for craft beer lovers.

“The city hosts several beer festivals throughout the year and is home to numerous brewery taprooms so you’ll never miss an opportunity to sample some of the most exciting and experimental beers from Edinburgh and beyond.”

Taking joint second place Vancouver and Amsterdam have 0.8 breweries per 100,000 people. Vancouver is home to a total of 21 breweries, while Amsterdam has nine.

The research also looked at other factors including a city’s popularity on social media, the number of times a city features in google searches, the number of independent coffee shops, vegan restaurants and yoga studies per 100,000 population in a city as well as the percentage of its population under 15 and more to reveal “the world’s trendiest cities”.

The overall ‘trendiness’ index also comprised a number of additional social features including TikTok views and instagram views.

As a result, Edinburgh also leads the way in the survey for the most vibrant hospitality, ranking first for vegan restaurants, breweries and coffee shops.

London topped the table with a score of 8.13.

Dublin came in fourth place overall for the number of coffee shops per 100,000 people with 45.7 per 100,000 people. London sat one place below Dublin with 40.1 per 100,000. Dublin also found itself in fourth place for the percentage of people under 15 at 20.2% behind first-placed Mexico City on 25.8%, Istanbul on 23.0% and Rio de Janeiro on 20.9%. Dublin also came fourth after Edinburgh, Amsterdam and London for the number of vegan restaurants per 100,000 people at 44.6 compared to the table-topping Edinburgh on 118.9, Amsterdam on 74.2 and London on 45.1.

The Irish capital scored 2.1 yoga studios per 100,000 people putting it in a healthy eighth position in the table (Chicago topped this table with a score of 9.0) while it had nearly five million google searches, putting it in 16th position on the google search table (Singapore topped the table with 96 million google searches). Dublin also came in in 16th place for the number of TikTok views with 2.8 million (London topped the table on 30.5 million TikTok views) and 19th overall for the number of instagram views at 13.5 million (where table-topping London had 156.6 million).
