Corona Cork film festival returns
The 53rd Corona Cork Film Festival, which took place from 12-19 October, opened with the screening of Burn After Reading, the latest offering from Coen Brothers, staring Brad Pitt and George Clooney. For eight days and eight nights the festival screened over 300 films before closing with the screening of The Silence of Lorna, directed by Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne.
Attracting much praise, the winner of the Camera d’Or at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, Hunger received a fantastic response from the film festival goers. Written by Enda Walsh, Hunger tells the story of Bobby Sands, focusing on the final days of his hunger strike at the Maze Prison in 1981.

The Corona Cork Film Festival is internationally recognised as a leading showcase for the short film format and this year there were new additions including a special programme of New Arab Cinema and a diverse selection of award winning Mexican shorts.
