Cliffords Bar in Cork prosecuted

Cliffords bar in Crookstown, Cork, was successfully prosecuted by the Health Service Executive in March for violations of the FSAI Act 1998.

The prosecution arose out of an inspection by EHOs on November 9th last year and costs of €1,100 together with a fine of €1,200 were imposed on the licensee with six months to pay.

Licensee Donal Clifford was prosecuted at Macroom District Court on 1st March this year under Jude Waters for breaches of the food hygiene legislation found during inspections on a number of dates – 22nd April and 9th November – last year by an  Environmental Health Officer.

Other offences were taken into consideration.

Despite applying for more detail on this particular case under FoI, Drinks Industry Ireland was refused access on the grounds of present legislation contained in Article 7 of EC Food Hygiene Regulation 882/2004.

In addition, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland reports that six Closure Orders and one Prohibition Order had been served on food businesses during the month of March for breaches of food safety legislation pursuant to the FSAI Act 1998 and the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010.

The Enforcement Orders were issued by EHO’s in the Health Service Executive and sea-fisheries officers in the Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority.
