Bar sales volumes up 55% in June

Bar sales volumes were up by nearly 55% in June compared to June 2021, with bar sales values showing growth of 64% according to seasonally-adjusted provisional figures from the Central Statistics Office.

 

Across the three months April to June this year bar sales volumes were up 220%, with values up 234% when compared with the same three-month period in 2021.

While Bars and Pharmaceuticals, Medical & Cosmetic Articles were the only sectors to show annual volume growth, it should be borne in mind that Lockdowns would have adversely affected on-trade sales in 2021.

Comparing June’s sales figures with those in February 2020, prior to the onset of the pandemic, bar sales volumes were down 24% while values were down 16%.

June’s bar sales volumes were up by 8% on those for May while values were up 11%.

Final figures for May show bar sales volumes up by a whopping 735%, with values up 775%.

But bar sales volumes and values last May were both 7% down on those for the previous month, April.

Across the three months April to June this year bar sales volumes were up 220%, with values up 234% when compared with the same three-month period in 2021.

Bar sales volumes showed growth of 14% in the April-June Quarter when compared to the preceding January-March one this year and bar sales values showed growth of nearly 16%.

The overall volume of retail sales in June was down 1.3% on that for May.
