Wine prices fall 10% in off-trade

Overall alcohol prices fell 0.5% in the 12 months to April according to CSO figures while they rose by 0.2% compared to the previous month, March.

Over a three-month period overall alcohol prices fell by 0.3% when compared with the previous quarter.

Alcoholic beverage prices in the off-trade fell 5.5% in the 12 months to April according to CSO figures while they rose 0.3% on the previous month, March.

The 5.5% decline in off-trade prices over the year comprised a 5.2% fall in spirits prices, a 10.0% drop in wine prices and a 0.8% rise in beer prices.

Alcoholic beverage prices in the on-trade showed a 1.3% increase in the 12 months to April comprising a 1.7% rise in spirits prices, a 1.4% rise in wine and soft drinks & mineral water prices and a 1.1% rise in beer prices.

Compared to the previous month, March, on-trade prices showed a rise of 0.2% which comprised a 0.2% rise in spirits, wine and soft drinks & mineral water prices and a 0.1% rise in beer prices.
