Say it with Guinness

Alcohol often gets the blame for a romance going off the rails. However Guinness can take full responsibility for putting one romance firmly on-track recently.

It all happened in the Temple Bar pub in Dublin.

For this is where Laurence decided to pop the question to the love of his life, Rebecca, in a fairly stout fashion.

Thinking ahead, Laurence had had a Guinness glass custom printed with a one-line marriage proposal to his prospective fiancée which hepresented to his unsuspecting spouse one evening recently.

The Temple Bar’s Manager of some 20 years takes up the story:

“He came to the bar with the pint glass which stated, ‘Rebecca, will you marry me?’ and ordered two pints of Guinness, one in this pint glass.

“We could see that he was quite nervous as he ordered. He found it hard to get the money out of his pocket to pay for it and so by this stage we knew what he was going to do.

“She was sitting in the beer garden – unsuspecting – and so we got another of our barmen who looks after our social media to film the proposal discretely.

“Laurence sat down with her, placing the two pints on the table in front of her, but at this stage she was rummaging in her handbag for something and hadn’t seen the glass yet.

“Laurence took a sip out of his pint and suggested she take a sip out of hers – it was then that she noticed the inscription, went pale and started to sob.

“We got it all on camera and later asked their permission to put it up on facebook after which it went a bit viral.”

Martin wasn’t sure when the big day is to be, which may not bode well for getting an invite, we suggest….
