Faustino’s range of Rioja wines is drawn from 650 hectares of family-owned vineyards in the best areas of the Rioja DOCa, showcasing expertise going back over 150 years.
With origins dating back to 1861 the Faustino Group proprietors the Martinez family are one of the oldest “bodegueros” in Rioja and their Faustino brand is the most popular in Ireland, accounting for one on three bottles of the style sold in the country.
The fourth generation of the family controls the firm and is active in four different Spanish Appellations, owning 1,900 hectares of vineyards across Spain and seven different wineries.
Part of the Faustino Group, Bodegas Portia began its winemaking in the 1990s in the Ribera Del Duero DO region, formerly one of Spain’s best-kept secrets, a relatively unexplored part of the country’s winemaking.
Bodegas Portia won ‘Best Tempranillo in the World’ for its Portia Crianza 2003 wine and the project includes 160 hectares of the best vineyards available in the region. The winery, designed by world-famous architect Norman Foster, was built using concrete, wood, steel and glass.
In the last 20 years this pristinely rural region, about an hour-and-a-half north of Madrid, swept into the international spotlight as a premier source of world class red wines.
