Revenue seize contraband worth over €173,000 in various operations
Revenue officers recently seized contraband with an estimated value of over €173,000 in various operations in Dublin, Cork, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort.
These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity
The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence-led operations, and included the following:
- Tobacco products, with an estimated value of €80,000, and representing a potential loss to the exchequer of over €62,000,
- 64 counterfeit items with an estimated value of almost €38,000,
- 252 weapons and weapons accessories with an estimated value of €27,000,
- Over 1 kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of over €14,700,
- Various other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of over €11,500 and
- Over 123 litres of alcohol with an estimated value of over €1,800, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of over €1,000.
On 22 September, 47,200 cigarettes were seized at a house in Cork City.
This was part of a planned operation carried out by Revenue officers with the assistance of Detector Dog Rua.
In a separate planned operation on 17 September, Revenue officers seized 13,200 cigarettes following a vehicle search in Co. Cork.
The herbal cannabis and illicit drug seizures were made as a result of risk profiling.
The parcels originated from the USA, the UK, Canada, Spain, India and Hungary were destined for various addresses nationwide.
The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.
Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
