Revenue seize contraband worth over €156,000 in various operations

Revenue seizes €156,000 contraband including drugs, alcohol and counterfeit goods in multi-region operations across Ireland

Revenue officers recently seized contraband with an estimated value of over €156,000 in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort.

The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence-led operations, and included the following:

  • 113 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of over €43,000.
  • 1.8 kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of over €37,100.
  • Over 1250 litres of alcohol, with an estimated value of over €35,100 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €26,600.
  • 3.2 kg of cannabis resin, with an estimated value of €19,500.
  • Tobacco products, with an estimated value of over €10,500, and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €8,100.
  • Various other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of almost €8,800.

The herbal cannabis and illicit drug seizures were made as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dogs Sam, Ciara and Mollaith. The parcels originated from the USA, the UK, Canada, Thailand, the Netherlands, France and Spain, and were destined for various addresses nationwide.

The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights. One hundred and seventy-nine weapon accessories were also seized.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
