Restaurant/Dining card spend up 57% in June

At €522.2 million Credit and Debit card spend in the country's Restaurants/Dining sector for last June was up 57% over June 2021 according to the latest figures from the Central Bank.

 

Compared to the previous year social spending was up by 42%, or by €234.5 million, driven by the increase in restaurant spend of the order of €190 million.

However card spend was down 3% on the previous month, May 2022, with total social spending decreasing by 5% in June compared to May.

Spending on entertainment increased by 30%, or by €58.7 million, to €255.9 million between June 2021 and June 2022 although it fell 8% from the May figure of €278.7 million.

Total card spend overall (including ATMs) was down too, by 4% to €8.2 billion last June compared to May.
