Physical Intervention training to be mandatory for UK door supervisors

All door supervisors in the UK who wish to renew their Security Industry Authority licence will have to undergo training in ‘Physical Intervention’ from next February.

After that date it will be a requirement for everyone whether previously licensed or not. It means that as from 4th February 2013 any door supervisor in the UK with one of the older qualifications must now pass the ‘Up-Skilling Door Supervisor’s Award’ without which they cannot renew their SIA licence.

This course now includes awareness of terrorist threats, first-aid and dealing with 14 to 18 year-olds.

"Licence holders must have passed the training before they renew so it’s important that they allow sufficient time to complete it before their licence renewal date,” warned the SIA’s Director of Transition Dianne Tranmer, “Even if their licence is not due to be renewed for some time, completing the module now will ensure that they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and techniques to perform their role.”

UK doormen will have to undergo training in ‘Physical Intervention’ from next February.
