Kevin O’Brien wins RTC award

Carry Out retailer Kevin O’Brien received the ‘Responsible Trading Award’ at this year’s National Off-Licence Awards held recently at the Society of King’s Inn, Dublin.

NOffLA introduced the new award this year to recognise the successful launch of the online module of the Responsible Trading Certificate programme as a professional accreditation initiative to enhance staff training for those selling alcohol.??Kevin was delighted to be recognised as a leading light in the area of responsible trading and alcohol.

“The staff and management at Carry Out Ashtown, Carry Out Mulhuddart and Carry Out Tyrrelstown are delighted with the award, he stated, “We are part of the local communities in these areas and it’s important to us that we set the highest standards of responsibility with regard to selling alcohol. The RTC programme gives us the tools to do this.

??“We’d also like to call on the Government to ensure that alcohol is treated in a responsible manner by all retailers,” he continued, “This can be achieved by implementing section 9 of the Intoxicating Liquor Bill 2008, segregating alcohol from normal groceries in a mixed trading environment. Alcohol is a controlled substance and any purchase should be a conscious decision.”

??Speaking at the awards ceremony NOffLA Chairperson Evelyn Jones said, “Retailers have a huge part to play in countering the ill-effects of alcohol, particularly on our young people and this is why NOffLA introduced the Responsible Trading Certificate. Kevin O’Brien and his staff at Carry Out exemplify this spirit of responsible trading and we very much hope other off-licence retailers will follow his example in relation to the sale of alcohol”. ?
