Bar sales up 1.4%

Retail sales volumes in bars rose 2.6% in August compared with the previous month, July, according to provisional figures from the CSO which indicate a 1.4% rise in on-trade sales volumes in August compared with August the previous year, 2013.

Bar sales values were up 3.1% on the month and 4.1% on the year.

Final figures for July indicate a rise in bar sales volumes of 2.8% over June but a decline of 3.4% compared to July 2013. Bar sales values in July were 2.4% up on June but 1.2% down on July 2013.

Over the three month period June to August bar sales showed a decrease in volumes of 1.7% when compared with the previous March to May period and a decrease of 2.7% compared to the same June to August period in 2013.

Sales values showed a decline of 0.7% on the previous quarter and a decline of 0.2% on the June to August period in 2013.
