Alcohol prices down 1.4%

The overall price of alcohol fell 1.4% in July compared with July 2014 according to Central Statistics Office figures.

Prices for alcohol were down 0.1% in the month itself compared to the previous month, June 2015 and they were down by the same amount over the three months May to July when compared to the February to April quarter 2015.

Off-trade alcohol prices were down 4.8% in the year to July comprising a fall of 1.9% in spirits prices, 6.6% in wine prices and 2.5% in beer prices.

Compared to the previous month, off-trade alcohol prices were down by 0.5% comprising a fall in price of 0.4% in spirits, 0.2% in wine and 1.0% in beer.

In the on-trade, alcohol prices rose by 0.3% in the 12 months to July comprising a rise of 0.3% in spirits, soft drinks & mineral waters and wine prices accompanied by a rise of 0.2% in beer prices.

Prices on average, as measured by the CPI, were 0.2% lower in July compared with July 2014.
