Revenue seizes €163,000 worth of tobacco and cigarettes at Dublin Port

The seizure included 137,500 cigarettes and 58 kilogrammes of rolling tobacco

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco

On 23 April 2024, as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dog Milo, Revenue officers seized 137,500 cigarettes and 58 kgs of rolling tobacco with an estimated value of almost €163,000 at Dublin Port.

The contraband was discovered in a consignment which had arrived from Cyprus via the Netherlands.

The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Benson & Hedges Gold’, have an estimated value of more than €115,000 and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €90,600 whilst the rolling tobacco, branded ‘Amber Leaf’, has an estimated value of more than €47,800 and represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €35,900.
