“Unfortunately, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Irish Whiskey Awards,” Ally Alpine, Proprietor of Celtic Whiskey Shop on Dublin’s Dawson Street, who organises the annual event, told Drinks Industry Ireland, “Given the current situation, we couldn’t be sure of what the restrictions would be come October and knew that it would be very difficult to safely implement social distancing over the Summer months for the blind tastings.”

However Celtic Whiskey Shop still hopes to go ahead with its Whiskey Live event subject to the relaxing of precautions countering the present crisis with Covid-19.

Drinks Industry Ireland can also confirm that next year’s event will take place at the Powerscourt Distillery in Enniskerry, County Wicklow, the venue originally set for this year’s awards.
