Pubs yield extra €5.4m in audits & RMIs

110,058 litres of beer, spirits and wine were seized by the Revenue Commissioners last year which they valued at €890,000 while there were four convictions made for alcohol tax evasion according to the Revenue Commissioners’ Annual Report for 2016, just published.

Some 188 pubs were audited which yielded €2.77 million. A further 2,301 underwent ‘Risk Management Intervention’ – which would cover every type of Revenue intervention other than an audit – yielding another €2,678,839 to give a total tax yield of €5,444,725.

Some 21 publicans were also ‘named and shamed’ during the year via the Quarterly List of Tax Defaulters.
