Women in Irish Whiskey will mark International Women’s Day with two exciting and distinct events.

The first, focused on welcoming new types of whiskey consumers, offers a fresh, fun experience, while the second will bring together industry leaders to celebrate the achievements of women in the whiskey sector.

Whiskey & Vinyl Night

On 6 March, Women in Irish Whiskey will host a Whiskey & Vinyl Night at Hen’s Teeth in The Liberties.

This event is designed to provide a relaxed and approachable environment for whiskey enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

Guests will enjoy a curated selection of whiskeys from Teeling Whiskey Distillery, Pearse Lyons Distillery and Roe & Co. all while listening to vinyl music.

The evening aims to introduce a new, fun way for people to experience Irish whiskey in a laid-back and casual setting.

International Women’s Day Industry Event

On 7 March, Women in Irish Whiskey will host its third annual International Women’s Day Industry Event at Teeling Whiskey Distillery.

This exclusive event will bring together industry leaders from Teeling Whiskey Distillery, Skellig Six18, the Kentucky Distillers Association, and Heaven Hill for an insightful discussion on whiskey tourism, changing consumer demographics, and evolving market trends.

The event will celebrate the contributions of women across all functions of the whiskey industry and provide a valuable networking opportunity for the 85+ women professionals in attendance.

Women in Irish Whiskey

Heather Clancy, co-owner of Women in Irish Whiskey, spoke with Drinks Industry Ireland about what led to the creation of the group. Along with her co-owner, Anne-Marie Kelly, Clancy recognised a gap in support networks during a stint they both worked in Berlin in 2023.

“Neither of us had a list of people who you could call for advice on career development or on dealing with things in the industry,” Clancy explained. “We said, ‘sure, why don’t we set it up together?’” What began as a small gathering in the Irish Whiskey Museum with 20 people quickly grew into an event for 60 people in Nassau Street, aiming to bring women across the industry together for networking and panel discussions.

Since then, the group has expanded significantly. Women in Irish Whiskey has grown from an informal meetup to a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG).

Their annual International Women’s Day event, which started at Roe & Co Distillery last year, will be held this year at Teeling’s Whiskey Distillery.

Clancy emphasised the importance of International Women’s Day: “It really puts a focus on celebrating the different women in the industry.” While the Irish whiskey industry currently has a demographic split of 63% men and 37% women, Clancy sees this as an encouraging start.

She highlighted that events like these give women in the industry a chance to connect, which is especially valuable given how busy professionals are with their day-to-day roles.
