Supervalu & Dunnes gaining alcohol ground

Supervalu and Dunnes Stores were the only two major retail chains to grow their share of the beer and wine market year-on-year in the 52 weeks to 17th July according to Kantar Worldpanel figures.

As Tesco’s share of the beer and wine market shrank from 27% to 26.8%, that of Supervalu grew from 22.5% to 23.4% while that of Dunnes Stores grew from 15.8% to 16.7%.

Discounters Aldi and Lidl saw their share of the beer and wine market reduce from 12.3% to 12.1% and from 13.0% to 11.9% respectively.

The share of the beer and wine market held by the ‘others’ also shrunk from 9.4% to 9.1%.
