SuperValu stays top of beer & wine shares

SuperValu, Dunnes Stores and Aldi continued to take share of beer and wine sales from Tesco in the year to March 20th last according to alcohol share figures from Kantar Worldpanel.
SuperValu’s share of beer and wine market rose from 26.1% to 26.7%.

The share figures, exclusively revealed to Drinks Industry Ireland by Kantar, show that Tesco’s share of the takehome beer and wine market slipped from 25.5% to 24.6% in the year to March 20th while that of SuperValu rose from 26.1% to 26.7% and that of Dunnes rose from 17.2% to 18.5%.

Discount shopper Aldi saw its share of beer and wine sales rise from 10.2% to 10.4%.

Lidl’s share meanwhile shrank from 11.5% to 11.4% and ‘others’ also saw a further share loss to 8.4% from 9.5%.

However over the three month period to March 22nd sales of beer and wine rose by 14.5% adding an additional €24.6 million to the market according to Kantar Worldpanel while total grocery spend was up by 10.1% bringing an additional €255.4 million to the market.
