Revenue seize tobacco worth almost €450,000 at Dublin Port

The tobacco has an estimated retail value of approximately €446,100, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €337,000

On Saturday, 31 May, as a result of risk profiling, Revenue officers seized 504.5 kgs of tobacco at Dublin Port.

The seizure was made with the assistance of Revenue’s X-ray scanner.

The smuggled tobacco, branded ‘Turner’ and ‘Golden Virginia’, was discovered in a consignment of bedframes, following the search of a truck that arrived from the UK.

The tobacco has an estimated retail value of approximately €446,100, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €337,000.

The driver of the truck was arrested.

He has since appeared before the courts.

Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.
