Revenue seize contraband worth over €352,000 in various operations

Revenue seizes €352,000 of contraband in Dublin, Midlands and Rosslare Europort during intelligence-led operations

Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of over €352,000 in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort.

Seized contraband

The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence-led operations, and included the following:

  • 150 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of over €164,300,
  • 7.3kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of over €145,200,
  • Tobacco products, with an estimated value of over €33,400 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €26,200,
  • 528g of cannabis resin, with an estimated value of over €3,170,
  • Various other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of over €4,300.

The herbal cannabis and illicit drugs seizures were made as a result of risk profiling with the assistance of detector dogs Ciara and Sam.

The parcels originated from the US, New Zealand, Canada, Thailand, and Germany, and were destined for various addresses nationwide.

Included in the seized tobacco were 25,580 cigarettes at Dublin Airport on 5 April.

The cigarettes have an estimated value of €23,700, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €18,900.

The cigarettes were discovered within the baggage of a man, aged in his 40s, who had disembarked a flight originating from Germany.

The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.

Sixteen weapon accessories were also seized.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
