Revenue seize contraband worth over €135,000

Revenue seizes €135.000 worth of drugs tobacco alcohol and counterfeit goods in nationwide operations

Revenue officers have recently seized contraband with an estimated value of over €135,000 in various operations in Dublin, Kilkenny, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity

The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence-led operations, and included the following:

  • 4.7kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of over €94,000,
  • 2.4kg of cannabis resin, with an estimated value of over €14,000,
  • 1,698 assorted tablets, with an estimated value of over €4,000,
  • Various other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of over €6,000,
  • Tobacco products, with an estimated value of €9,345 and representing a potential loss to the exchequer of €7,145,
  • Over 84 litres of alcohol with an estimated value of €1,485, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of over €925 and
  • 23 counterfeit items with an estimated value of over €7,000.

The herbal cannabis and illicit drug seizures were made as a result of risk profiling.

The parcels originated from Canada, the US, Thailand, Spain and France, and were destined for various addresses nationwide.

The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights. Two weapon accessories were also seized.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
