Revenue seize contraband worth almost €220,000 in various operations

Revenue seizes almost €220,000 in contraband during intelligence-led operations across Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare Europort

Revenue officers recently seized contraband with an estimated value of almost €220,000 in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity

The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence-led operations, and included the following:

  • 132 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of over €180,300,
  • Over 1.1kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of almost €22,400,
  • Various illicit drugs, with an estimated value of over €11,300,
  • Over 178 litres of alcohol, with an estimated value of over €2,800, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €1,800, and
  • Tobacco products, with an estimated value of over €2,800, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €2,100.

The herbal cannabis and illicit drug seizures were made as a result of risk profiling with the assistance of detector dogs Sam and Ciara.

The parcels originated from the UK, the USA, Spain, India and Canada, and were destined for various addresses nationwide.

The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.

Seven weapons accessories were also seized.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
