Profits up for Chawke pubs

Charjon Investments, which includes Charlie Chawke’s Goat Grill pub in Goatstown, South County Dublin, produced accumulated profits of €1.55 million in the year to the end of March 2013, up 6.6% from €1.46 million the previous year, according to its annual results filed with the Companies Office.

Accumulated Profits at College Inns Ltd which includes The Bank pub on College Green grew by 48% to €384,328, up €124,601 in the year to the end of April 2013.

Employing around 400 staff, Charlie Chawke reported a pick-up in all his pubs with turnover increasing by around 10% he told the Irish Independent recently.
Four of his children also work in the licensed trade business.

However the pub group pays over €500,000 a year in interest repayments on the €22 million loan taken out for the Orchard Inn in Rathfarnham in 2005, the most expensive pub ever purchased in Ireland.

Charlie admitted in the newspaper that if the Orchard Inn were to be put for up for sale today he’d only get "half of what I paid for it”.
