Peroni going East?

AB InBev’s brands Peroni and Grolsch together with craft brewer Meantime have become the subject of a binding acquisition offer from Japan’s largest brewer the Asahai Group.

Asahi’s offer values the three brand families (and associated businesses in Italy, the Netherlands and the UK as well as internationally, with the exclusion of certain US rights) at €2.55 billion.

The consultation process has begun and the two parties are in exclusive negotiations.

Asahi’s offer, if accepted by AB InBev, is conditional on the successful closing of the recommended record-setting €88 billion acquisition of SABMiller by AB InBev including EU approval of the Japanese brewer as the purchaser of these brands and businesses.

SAB recently sold its majority stake in US venture MillerCoors to Molson Coors for £8.3billion.
