Off-trade wine prices fall 8.4%

Overall off-trade prices fell 4.9% in the year to January 2017 according to CSO figures.

The fall comprised an 8.4% fall in wine prices and a 2.1% fall in beer prices accompanied by a rise of 0.6% in spirits prices.

In the on-trade, prices in licensed premises rose 1.2% in the year to January 2017 comprising a 1.7% rise in spirits prices, a 1.1% rise in wine prices, a 1.0 % rise in beer prices and a 1.5% rise in soft drinks & mineral water prices.

Compared to the previous month, December 2016, on-trade prices increased by 0.2% comprising a 0.3% increase in spirits prices, a 0.1% increase in wine prices, a 0.2% increase in beer prices and a 0.3% increase in soft drinks & mineral water prices.

Off-trade prices showed a monthly rise of 3.1% for alcohol comprising a 15.8% rise in spirits prices, a 0.5% rise in wine prices and a 1.8% rise in beer prices when compared to December 2016.
